Blantyre agricultural development Division
Blantyre is comprised of seven districts namely: Thyolo, Mulanje, Phalombe, Blantyre, Chiradzulu, Mwanza and Neno. The ADD has 29 EPAs and a total of 544 sections, with a total of 816,914 farming households.
The total arable land for the ADD is 394,207ha and the average land holding size is 0.45ha per farming household. Some of the major crops grown are maize, cassava, sweet potatoes, groundnuts, pigeon peas, beans and tobacco while major livestock species are cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and poultry. Production of commercial poultry like layers and broilers is concentrated in Blantyre City and surrounding towns.
